A sewer line is arguably the most important utility in a home or business, and if it fails or is compromised the effects can be devastating. A sewer scope examines and documents the conditions found in a sewer line, and can find issues that can lead to a line failure. Some common issues include tree roots, blockages, cracks, separations, and insufficient drainage. A scoping can also tell you what material your pipe is made out of so that you can monitor for future issues.
What does a sewer scope look like?
Preconstruction Pipe Examples
Testing a sewer line before it is covered with dirt. This inspection is required by the city to verify that the pipe can hold water without leaking at any of its glued joints. A rubber test ball is inflated into the line to perform this test and on rare occasions this test ball is not removed when the dirt is backfilled. This is easily identified with a video inspection.
There are a lot of utilities underground in new home construction! Shown here are the sewer pipes, stormwater pipes, underground power lines, low voltage conduit, and Cable TV / internet line. Movement in the sewer line can occur when all of the dirt is put back into place. Improper compaction and support of this pipe when backfilling can result in failures that can only be observed with a video line inspection.
The sanitary sewer line is the black ABS pipe. The stormwater pipes are the white PVC. Checking to make sure these lines are not cross connected into the main lines is easily done with a video inspection.
